SO WHAT DO WE DO?

Talbot House is a charity (founded 1976) that provides support services for parents and unpaid carers of children and adults with learning disabilities who live in the Manchester area*.

Our motto is We begin, middle and end it as Talbot House is there for parents and carers every step of the way, from birth to old age.

Our goal is to provide essential support for our carers in getting the correct benefits, finding care services, help with form filling/letter writing, training for carers, along with the mental health and wellbeing support that many carers of learning disabled people desperately need.

With our experienced hard working team of support workers and a dedicated team of volunteers, many of whom are carers themselves, we have built a carer community to support, inform and relate to the challenges that come with looking after a learning disabled person, whether they are a young child or fully grown adult. Our support staff use their years of experience to make sure that people get the right support, and that the correct person centred plans are put in place. It is without doubt that our support service has helped improve the lives of thousands of families over the years, and in many cases has saved lives.

In addition to our support services, and with the help of our many dedicated volunteers, we also use our Support Centre as a community hub for carers to enjoy various community events and activities, and to meet and socialise with other carers to build friendships and support networks. The wellbeing of our carers is of paramount importance to us and we believe these events and activities help to improve the mental health and wellbeing, and reduce the loneliness and social isolation experienced by many carers.
