Bernie’s Blog – Laughter in the Kitchen
Good day to you all from Bernie here at Talbot House.
Well Monday’s have got a lot tastier, and a lot louder( in the best way) since we launched our special cooking group for some parent carers who have sons and daughters approaching life as an adult, and its quickly become one of the highlights of the week. This all started when I was approached by a member of Clippy’s Chippy funded my MCC for us to run 7 Mondays to take part in a food adventure creating fun and healthier habits under the wonderful guidance of Michelle McKenna who has become our temporary resident chef! The weeks flew by and sadly time was up. Then surprise surprise some of the group approached me asking how they could continue , then I approached Colin our Business Manager and asked “have we got any money?” and just like the magician pulling the rabbit from the hat, he pulled out enough funding for further sessions, hoping Michelle our chef will accept and be available, off we go!! Michelle said yes, and she can start the first session 6th October. In the meantime the famous 10 have agreed to carry on themselves creating their own dishes (its really Christine doing a bit of cheating) but hey what’s a cheat between friends?? There are now 10 brilliant busy big hearted people who come together to cook , but really to connect and share.
From the moment they arrive the room is filled with laughter and chats in this very safe place.
They all leave with something, whether its a new recipe, a new friendship but definitely with a lighter heart. Their conversations continue what this space, I will be listening so watch this space.
